Yes, I'm defending the model 100%. Their product is one of the most pirated software out there, they lost billions so far and I'm sure their CC non-restrictive price tag and internet based subscription will make a big impact in that area. Photoshop 7 still works good for me and it's well supported on all modern platforms (windows at least) - that's a 13 years old software, so let's not paint an apocalyptic image about how CS6 will cease to function, we both know that's not gonna happen anytime soon. And yes, when the time will come for me to make the switch to CC I will pay the monthly fee for as long as it makes sense for me to do so. And if the industry is so dependent on the software as you claim I guess that's how the game will go, we'll all have to either rent to play or find an alternative. How does it make sense to force a business into giving you their property on your specific terms ?
