How to create automated "page numbers" using a list of words

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is possible but I'm working on a book that instead of traditional page numbers, will use an alphabetical list of words to order the pages. For example, the first page might be "Aardvark"; second page "Bull"; third page "Cat"; fourth page "Dog"; fifth page "Elephant […]

I'm hoping to add automated page numbers to the master pages as I normally would do using the "Current page number" marker. I am hoping to avoid having to enter everything manually, especially as the pages might change around. Is this possible? I have an alphabetical list of words separated by paragraph breaks. Is there a way to use this list in lieu of traditional numbering options (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4… or I, II, III, IV, V…)?

Thanks so much in advance! If this question is in the wrong forum please let me know…
