Lightroom 4 importing to a Network Share

Hello Everyone;

I'm using a Windows 8.1 machine with Lightroom 4 and I could sure use your expertise in figuring out this problem.

A few months ago I had 3 network drives fail and had to recover all of my images from DVD into a new drive and new desktop hard drive. I had to also rebuild my lightroom 4 catalog with over 35k images because somewhere along the line everything became corrupt and missing.

I have started to rebuild my catalog database and want to add images from both the local hard drive and two network appliance drives that are shared with the desktop.

The problem as I have it is that when I try to import either from the compact flash card into a new directory on the network share drives or simply add the images from the existing shared folders, the destination does not display the network shared drive letters and won't let me add them.  The really strange thing is that when looking at the top of the import dialog; it will allow me to "send" the images to the networked drive and create a sub-folder.  Of course when I actually begin the import; the process goes at a snails pace and just when I think everything will be imported or stored in its proper network destination folder; lightroom gives an error and tells me that none of the files were imported.

What I've done to try to fix the problem with the shares displaying:

I've checked all the preferences and catalog settings against the recommended defaults here on adobe.com.

I've troubleshoot the network drives protocol and made sure there were no security bugs hindering the display of the drives.

I have added an allow policy in my Norton 360 firewall and anti-virus program.

I also copied the CR2 files directly to the network drive; but lightroom will only let me import them through the Add a folder option in the folders file viewer.

I really need some help Please because I've spent almost 4 days trying to get everything to work, even gone through all the tutorials here and considered upgrading to lightroom 5 to see if that would fix. I'm out of resources and as an old Novell Network Admin; I understand the communications going on in the network and how they should work together. Lightroom 4 is the only thing not connecting and I am at a loss why.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, fixes and general "do this" that I know you will provide.  Appreciate it!

Julie
