Another option is to key in Cmd+Opt+Shift+E to make one composite image without losing the separate layers. Then create the fade on the composite. If you find later that one of your silhouettes needs work, just delete (or click the eye off) the composite layer, tweak the layer that needs it, and key in Cmd+Opt+Shift+E again for a revised composite..
